Our board brings together some of the most experienced and influential figures from across healthcare and industry to ensure Discover-NOW remains at the forefront of health data for research.

Axel has been involved with Imperial College Health Partners since its conception in 2011 as an Interim Director and joined the Partnership full-time in August 2013 as Director of Strategy and Commerce. As of September 2016 Axel was appointed as Managing Director and of Discover-NOW as it formed. He is also Visiting Professor at the Institute of Global Health Innovation.

Prior to joining the Partnership, Axel was Executive Director of Strategy and Business Development at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He brings a broad range of experience from academia and central government where he was Deputy Director and Chief Analyst at the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit in the Cabinet Office and No 10.

Amanda Lucas

Director of Information

Amanda Lucas joined Imperial College Health Partners as a Programme Director in January 2018 and she is now our Director of Information. In her role Amanda is responsible for enabling the North West London sector to work collaboratively to create value and improve the health and wellbeing of the local population through the design and delivery of complex transformation programmes.

Amanda is currently responsible for delivery of Discover-NOW, the Health Data Research Hub for Real World Evidence.

Amanda is a former management consultant having spent over 12 years in one of the big four consultancies and then working through her own limited company. She has a track record of Board level engagement and delivery of large and complex programmes across the public sector and health and is an expert in big data programmes.

More recently, Amanda was Programme Director for the Whole Systems Integrated Care (WSIC) Programme on behalf of the Collaboration of 8 CCGs across NWL. Amanda set up WSIC that has developed linked health and social care records for over 2.2 million patients in NWL which are available to improve current and future care of the local population.

Amanda has a BA and MA in Economics from Leeds University.

Amy joined Imperial College Health Partners as Director of Communications and Engagement in June 2013 and is now an Executive Director. Amy is also leading on the Public Trust workstream for Discover-NOW. She is passionate about using communications and engagement as a strategic leadership tool and believes both are central to the effective delivery of change, ultimately improving services for patients and the public.

Prior to joining the Partnership, Amy held a number of senior roles in communications and engagement in the NHS; working at national, regional and local levels across both provider and commissioning functions.

She brings a broad range of experience ranging from stakeholder and patient engagement to public affairs and strategic communications. Amy has a degree in Public Relations.

Tom Binstead is a health data and information specialist with twenty years of experience working in the healthcare sector, including six years in analyst roles within the NHS. Tom is director of strategy and analytics at Telstra Health UK, where he is responsible for defining and developing Telstra Health UK’s future portfolio of advanced analytics and insight solutions, driving the organisation’s growth as a strategic partner to UK and global health systems.

Tom manages a team of specialist analysts, consultants and data scientists, and leads on population health management solutions for the NHS, helping systems to shift from a reactive model of healthcare to one that is proactive, capable of predicting which individuals and population groups are most likely to benefit from health and care interventions. In this role, Tom leverages his 12 years of experience working for a global population health delivery organisation and 3 years as a public health information specialist in Hampshire.

Tom has a degree in Mathematical Statistics and Operational Research from the University of Exeter and a diploma in Health Information Science from the University of Warwick.
