COPD patients continue to smoke after being diagnosed for COPD

COPD in developed countries is mainly attributed to tobacco smoking. Sustained smoking accelerates the progression of COPD with grave consequences on healthcare costs, disability and morbidity.

Separate studies on smoking cessation (SC) in COPD pts and psychiatric comorbidities reveal a highly addicted and difficult to quit sub category. However, the possible interaction between COPD and mental health conditions and its potential impact on quitting behaviour of COPD pts has not been sufficiently researched.
